As mentioned earlier, the Flavr Savr tomato was an early pioneer for the field of genetically modifying food. In fact, it was created by a Californian company called CALGENE in 1992 and put into the public market in 1994. It was designed to be more resistant to rotting, which made it easier to transport. Unfortunately, the invention was taken off the public market due to bad sales.

Genetic modification also includes cloning. The company ViaGen specializes in cloning animals such as cows, goats, etc. They state that their company, "...Is an advanced reproductive technology that results in an animal that has the same genes as the donor animal, like an identical twin separated in time." Also, scientists are genetically modifying animals to make higher quality produce and meat (such as enhanced nutrition), which will the carry on to their offspring.
